My New Jewelry Storage – I LOVE DIY!

In the house we own, and don’t currently live in, Christopher and I had put up this awesome Jewelry and Scarf storage that included pegboard and really cute Ikea knobs. However, it had to stay with the house for obvious reasons. So when we moved in here, I knew I needed a storage solution. This is what my jewelry looked like:

It was mostly organized, and I even got rid of a TON when we went on our adventure, but I couldn’t see it all. And I tend to wear the same one or two pieces every day if I can’t see all my options. I had a great space for the storage too, but not a lot of ideas.

(Maddie was mad she hadn’t yet made it into the blog so she photobombed me!) I had all that wall space, but couldn’t figure out exactly what I wanted to do. (Also, I may have cheated and cleaned up before I took this picture haha)

So, turning to Pinterest, I still couldn’t find EXACTLY what I wanted, but it had some good ideas that I could merge together to give me what I wanted.

I wanted my dangly earrings and my necklaces hanging for sure. I also wanted shelves for storage and pictures. So, after a trip to Lowes and less than $10, we came up with this:

I knew I didn’t want brackets underneath since that’s where we would be installing the hooks, so I went with boring old “L” Brackets that were small enough I could hide.

First step was to measure and mark where the hooks would go:

We ran into our first problem which was quickly solved. Christopher’s bits are all too long and could (if we weren’t careful) puncture through the board on the top side. But my INCREDIBLY smart and resourceful husband came up with a solution. Duct tape.

This way as we drilled the holes for the hooks, the duct tape would stop us from going too far into the board. Then it was the arduous (and slightly painful) task of twisting in all the hooks. This was by far my least favorite part. My fingers were not appreciative either.

Now that we had the boards assembled, we went back into the bedroom and found that our stud finder was having a hard time finding the metal studs. So my GENIUS husband came up with another idea. We have Bucky Balls (we seriously are children) and so he told me to grab one. We put it in a baggie – and now we had a stud/screw finder:

Go try it yourself! It’s PERFECT! LOL. Next step was to put the boards on the walls:

And then it was just time to hang the jewelry up and make it pretty!!

Ta Da!!! Isn’t it gorgeous?! I’m sooo pleased with it.

So here you have all my dangly earrings. After I started to hang them I realized the hooks were all facing the front so my really big earrings were not. So we twisted them all to the side and now I can see every single one! And on top we have a basket that a friend gave us (which will be used for frequently worn scarves) and a wedding photo – brackets hidden!

My next problem was storage for bracelets! So I found this sweet vase that wasn’t being used and put all the bracelets I could on it. And of course we have awesome pictures to cover the brackets.

I already had those adorable tea cups from my bridal shower YEARS ago, we did a Tea Party theme. Now they hold my studs, bracelets that don’t fit, and my earring backs (I buy the plastic bits in bulk because I am FOREVER losing them). The box on the left (with the wedding photo) holds special jewelry including my wedding jewelry, and on the right is the key to our first home (the one we own but don’t live in LOL).

So there you have it! DIY Jewelry Storage for under $10! One of many DIY projects we will be doing to make this little condo our home! :-)

What A Wonderful Weekend!!

We had such an amazing and ACTION-PACKED weekend, I just have to tell you about it.

The best part of being home is getting to see family and friends IN PERSON whenever we want. Not via FaceTime or Facebook Video Chat, or with a visit scheduled weeks in advance. So we kicked off our weekend on Saturday by having the family out to visit us in our new place. Unfortunately, as soon as everyone started arriving, a huge wrench interrupted all my plans. I was going to be acting as a vendor with Jamberry and my friend and sponsor Charlene for a Zumba event, only I thought it was on Sunday. I found out no, it’s TODAY!! I hadn’t finished everything I was going to prepare because I thought I still had time. (Woes of a procrastinator??) Thankfully, Charlene stepped up and did a TON of what I had promised to do and as soon as I told Christopher, he recognized my stress level and took over everything with my family to allow me to get stuff done. I really DID hit the jackpot when I married him!

After an AWESOME visit with my family (gosh I missed that!) I headed out to Charlene’s to head to the event. After we left her house I realized I had NOTHING printed with my information on it. Or my wallet. It was not going to be my day. So standing in WaWa waiting on a delicious milkshake that Charlene purchased for me (the only thing to cure this bad day) she told me to “Let it go” – I asked her to sing it…. I’m sure you can guess that she did NOT sing it for me. She’s selfish… I digress.

The event was awesome! We got the contact info for about 30% of the attendees, which I think is fantastic! And I even did a little Zumba in all my nice clothes. Which probably wasn’t such a great idea, but whatever, we had fun!

The next morning started with the breakfast of champions, BAGEL KING! We missed them sooo much! We had Matt, Megan and the kids over for bagels and then we took the babies to the park while Matt and Megan went to run some errands. Taking the babies to the park…. the best dang part of being back, I’m telling you!!

After they left, we had two appointments lined up through Craigslist – we were getting bicycles!! Christopher had scoured through tons of listings and found me a year-old Giant Boulder W in great condition. For $45! It probably should have been almost double that, but it’s awesome because it has a little rust and needs a couple upgrades, and now we can afford it! Christopher found himself a NEAR PERFECT Giant Rincon that was almost exactly like the one he had before. It was a little bit more than he wanted to spend, but altogether we spent less than $200 on both bikes! We call that a WIN!!!

And finally, we wrapped up our weekend with dinner at my friends’ house – Rebecca and Ryan Hughes (and their two babies!) Since moving back Rebecca and I have reconnected in a huge way, but I hadn’t seen Ryan in YEARS. And we HAD to get Ryan and Christopher together so they could be best friends. Ryan works at Lowes, and Christopher dreams of being locked in a Lowes overnight. Perfect match! We had a great time visiting with them and playing with their kids.

Hope your weekend was awesome too! :-)

A New Day!

It’s a new day, on a new blog! I’m very excited to be launching today!

When Christopher and I decided to come home from the road, I knew I wanted to continue blogging. About what, I wasn’t sure. But thanks to YOUR suggestions, I found my new voice. And of course I needed a new name. Since I am transitioning out of “travel” blogging, I can no longer call myself a nomad… And since I didn’t want to put myself in a category before I knew what I had to say, “Still Babbling” was born. So here goes, a blog all about whatever I feel like babbling about! :-)

And I’d like to throw a HUGE thank you to my Brother-in-law Alex for getting me set up and hosting this blog! I’d also like to thank Christopher for being such a big supporter of my whims and fancies. Lastly, I’d like to thank YOU – for reading my blog and making me feel important.

I cannot make any guarantees that this blog will always be astute, or clever, or even life-changing. But I CAN guarantee that I will babble! :-)

Unfortunately, I could not link my two blogs (yet….) so you will need to re-subscribe if you prefer getting my posts in your email! But I hope you will still come to visit the blog page from time to time. I worked very hard on designing it (I LOOOOVE pink if you can’t tell) and will continue to work on making it beautiful.

Welcome to Still Babbling!
